In the last twenty years, the ESL Institute has helped over 5,000 students learn English. Almost all of the students who have completed the Advanced levels have been accepted by community colleges or universities. We feel this high acceptance rate is due, in large, to the excellent teaching and the strong intensive program. The cost of your education at the Institute will be very modest compared with other schools. Nevertheless, you or your relatives or sponsors will be spending that money so that you can become proficient in English. It would be very disappointing if you failed in your purpose. Therefore, you must be willing to work hard so that you learn English as quickly as you can. This requires a promise from you to spend the time and energy. Many of our graduates will enter a community college, such as College of San Mateo, or a four- year college or university, such as Notre Dame or San Francisco State, after studying at the Institute. Some will return home to use English skills in the international business forum. Whatever your future plans, we at the Institute-the staff and teachers-will do everything we can to help you. About the Institute The ESL Institute, established in 1978, offers a six-level intensive pre-university English and cultural orientation program. The instructors are highly qualified specialists experienced in English Language teaching both overseas and in the USA. History The ESL Institute is a private institution dedicated to the teaching of English to foreign students. The institute grew out of the Magnolia adult school in South San Francisco, which operated an intensive ESL program from 1968-1978. In 1978, the institute was established in Millbrae where the students enjoy a lovely suburban environment very near San Francisco. The institute has taught thousands of pre-college to graduate students, business executives and trainees, diplomats, and people interested in improving their English for educational, professional, or personal needs.
